Nxamaseri Island Lodge

Okavango Delta Panhandle

Nxamaseri Island Lodge is located in the winding waterways of the Okavango Panhandle. The camp shows a different side of Botswana, with a strong cultural focus and a proximity to Tsodilo Hills, a World Heritage Site and sacred place of the San people. The permanent water surrounding camp ensures a birding paradise and multiple water activities including mokoro rides and angling for tigerfish.

What We Love

Wildlife

Nxamaseri Island Lodge offers exceptional birding year-round, with peak viewing from September to February before the new flood water arrives. The various habits, including waterways, woodland and riverine ensure a huge variation of bird species and some megafauna including elephant and hippo.

Experience

Activities are mainly water based, with mokoro (dug out canoe) rides, fishing, motorised boat trips including trips to uninhabited smaller islands for walks and exploring. A trip to Tsodilo Hills is highly recommended. Similar in reverence to Uluru/Ayers Rock to the San of Southern Africa, Tsodilo Hills hosts over 4,000 rock art paintings.

Impact

Nearly all of the staff, guides and management of Nxamaseri grew up in two villages very close to camp, ensuring the local community is benefiting from tourism. The new Tsodilo Hills seep out has been created in partnership with the San community, creating jobs and financial opportunity for the often marginalised San.
