Itinerary
Explore Nairobi
Touch down in Nairobi. At the airport, your family will be welcomed and transferred to a comfortable hotel that serves as a peaceful retreat from travel. The following day you’ll explore Nairobi, the day starts with a visit to the Giraffe Centre, where kids and adults can hand-feed endangered Rothschild giraffes in a close, interactive setting. Alternatively, wander through a bustling craft market alive with colours, handcrafted baskets, carved wooden animals, and jewellery made by skilled local artisans. The market’s lively atmosphere, rich textures, and vibrant sounds create a sensory experience that brings Kenyan culture vividly to life during your family adventure.
Safari in the Masai Mara
Board a light aircraft this morning, soaring above golden grasslands dotted with elephants and winding rivers. Your family safari begins as you land at a private conservancy in the Masai Mara, where wildlife encounters are more intimate and there are very few vehicles. The camp’s spacious 2-bedroom family tents are shaded beneath acacia trees with views out over a woodland clearing. Set out on game drives designed to match your family’s pace. Watch lion cubs tumble in the grass, spot cheetahs resting atop termite mounds, and see giraffes silhouetted against sunsets.
Family Safari in the Mara
In camp you’ll have a private vehicle just for your family to explore the Mara. A usual day on safari starts early, as you rise before the sun to get out whilst it is still cool and animals are active. On a 4 night stay you would expect to spend 2 days in the Mara Reserve and 2 nights in the conservancy. This is big cat country, with fantastic sightings of lion, cheetah and hopefully leopard, alongside wonderful elephant, giraffe and antelope sightings. Evenings here are spent round the campfire, with storytelling and marshmallow toasting beneath endless African stars, deepening the family connection to this remarkable landscape.
Loita Hills Maasai Trails
Swap vehicles for walking boots as experienced Maasai guides lead your family through the ancient Loita Hills’ forest trails. This part of your family holiday to Kenya offers a hands-on, screen-free break—a true family digital detox. Along the way, gentle donkeys carry your luggage, making it easier for everyone to focus on tracking animals, identifying bird calls, and learning about traditional plants used for food, medicine, and rituals. The camp moves nightly – all taken care of by the camp crew. This journey is for families with good levels of fitness, with walks of 4-6 hours a day.
Walking the Loita Hills
This walking adventure creates a rare and profound connection between your family, the land, and the rich traditions of the Maasai people. Surrounded by peaceful forest sounds—the rustling leaves, bird calls, and distant wildlife—you’ll find a grounding contrast to modern life’s distractions. This part of your family holiday to Kenya offers time to slow down, breathe deeply, and embrace nature’s rhythms. Curiosity grows as children and adults discover new plants, wildlife behaviours, and cultural stories passed down through generations. This immersive experience fosters lasting memories and deepens your family’s appreciation for Kenya’s wilderness and resilient people.
Arrive at Shompole
Shompole Wilderness is a fantastic spot for a family safari, set in a quiet part of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The camp has just six comfortable tents, each with a private deck overlooking the river or open plains. This is a perfect place for a family holiday to Kenya focused on a true family digital detox—no screens, just time outdoors together. You’ll enjoy family-friendly activities like game drives, walking with Maasai guides, tubing down the slow-moving river, and relaxing in the pool while watching wildlife nearby. The peaceful setting gives everyone a chance to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Wild Luxury by the River
The camp is run by a welcoming Maasai family who know exactly how to keep children entertained and engaged. Kids will love making dens by the riverbank, playing in the swimming pool, and learning about local wildlife from guides who encourage fun and discovery. One of the highlights is spending time at the sunken wildlife hide, where the whole family can watch animals like lions and wildebeest up close in their natural environment. Evenings are relaxed and full of laughter, with fireside dinners and barbecues under the stars. This is a wonderful way to share a real family adventure, making memories that will last long after your holiday ends.
